HP P1006 does not print

Asked by rgaupsas

I've recently bought an HP P106 laser jet and installed it in Fedora 2.6.22.14-72.fc6. I'm running CUPS and all appears to be working except the printer does not print. I can submit print jobs, they show up in the queue, it says they are printing, and the queue empties. But no hardcopy or any other indication from the printer that is is working. The printer does work in Win2K.

BTW, an HP Deskjet DP4260 works fine in the same CUPS environment where the HP P1006 does not print.

This printer REQUIRES a downloadable driver plug-in. Use hp-setup to install
the printer, and to download and install the plug-in.

I have been experiencing the same problem, I think so based on rgaupsas's comments, but although I tried the suggested actions, my HP1006 still won't print and sometimes says communications error. What do I do now?
I tried Hlip and the other printer installer on ubuntu but neither got good results this time. A month ago is when the problem started. My computer locked up while doing picture slide movements. The helpful Ubuntu Geek wiped the drive clean after saving all my data and installed the current version of upgraded ubuntu. The other HP printer 4280 works fine. Somehow he got the 1006 to work. Took it home and it wouldn't work. Took it back and again he got it to work saying it did it all by itself while he was waiting on customers and the computer was hooked up in that Hlip thing.
Then last Friday night I did internet work and after that I did the periodic ubuntu update. The next day I couldn't get into yahoo. I waited a day and tried again and there was another ubuntu update. I appled it and wala I was back into yahoo and all was fine except the printer.
I suspect some change has been made to ubuntu to freeze out HP laser 1006 and the problems have to do with changes made to the periodic updates and have nothing to do with anything I have done.

Very frustrating situation
Please advise

Please run 'hp-check -t' and post the output.

Maybe a simple thing like unplug and plug the printer again after pressing the print button will help
