LaserJet P1102 plugin.py crash / incorrect PPD

Asked by Klaas Kouwen

After many years of smooth use of HPLIP on various printers, I'm now confused on how to solve the following problem.

My HP Laserjet P1102 was working without any problems till a few weeks ago, now complaining of wrong PPD-file. I can print documents, however they come out with the messed-up letter placement.

Ubuntu 14.04, hplip-3.15.2., Dell Latitude E6410.

HP Device Manager mentions codes 1806/5012. When cycling printer power, the following is stated: Queue needs to be reconfigured, "HP-LaserJet-P1102' is using incorrect PPD file. However, if I go the route to remove and reconfigure queue, I end up in the same place.

Another laptop with the same (Edu)buntu install, without HP Device Manager installed, works fine with the same printer.

Strangely enough, the output of hp-check -t comes back clean:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile
HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to
successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

"Errno 5: Input/output error" usually indicates a file system problem on one of your partitions.
I recommend that you execute a full fsck on your hard disk partion(s).
The preferred way is to boot into a live system to make sure that they are not mounted.

Did a full fsck on my main partition, it came back clean.

Any other log files I can check that could shed light on this problem?
