Need to initiate color copies from pc

Asked by Jay

Hi,

Is it possible to initiate a colour copy from the hp-makecopies utility? I'm using a HP LJ2840. The printer itself has a colour copy option but the hp-makecopies doesn't seem to have an option to use this. If this isn't possible is there a way to do this by accessing the underlying driver? (I don't mind doing some C coding...)

Thanks!

We're looking into supporting this in the future, although I can't give you any ETA on this for now. It is on our to do list.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the reply!

Are there any short term workaround that I can use for the moment? The business need is to keep track of copies done via a program interface - mostly for billing purposes - which is why we need to initiate the copy from a pc interface.. The black and white copying works great but currently we're doing a scan+print combination for the colour copies which is slow (especially for a lot of copies).

I had a look at the python code used for the makecopies program. From what I can see it's using HP's Printing Management Language to do the copying - is it possible to modify this to do a colour copy? Also are there any specs online for PML?

I looked through my PML specs today for this printer - I could not locate
the correct object that would accomplish what you need... I will have to do
some more digging to find it. The PML specs are not, unfortunately,
publicly available.

I will let you know what I find...

Jay,

Don will be looking into this and it's added to our to do list.

If you don't mind I'm going to set this to answered for now. We don't have any ETA on this functionality.

Either myself or Don will update when we have some more information.

Thanks for your support of hplip!

Aaron
