in hplip toolbox, image quality and resolution are not available

Asked by denisconnolly

When upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10 the HP device manager no longer has the ability to set image quality and resolution. The options it does have are Basic, N-Up, Printout Appearance, Image Printing, and Miscellaneous. Nowhere in these options can you choose size (A4, Photo 4X6, A5, etc) or quality (photo, normal, best, fast) and these used to be available. I did not use the repo version of hplip, but downloaded the latest version at the time, hplip-3.14.10.run

Also, in the install, at the end, this error came up
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:127: RuntimeWarning: PyOS_InputHook is not available for interactive use of PyGTK
  set_interactive(1)

Hi,

In ubuntu 14.10 cups is not allowing read permission to PPD file for others and group.

The work around to this issue is to set read permission for PPD file

Please run command "sudo chmod +r /etc/cups/ppd/*   "  to enable read permission on PPD files.

Run command hp-printsettings  in terminal and you should be able to see the
missing options.

Rgs,
goutam
