cleaning something to make front face readable

Asked by Kay Holder

The printout plate or whatever it is called, the thing that shows the date and ink levels and shows what is going on, has become unreadable, like something needs cleaned. Is there something I should clean, where is it, and what do I clean it with. I have had this printer quite a while and it works fine, just seems to need a little TLC. Thank You

Hi,

Can you provide the output of "hp-check -t" command from the linux terminal.

However you can also try upgrading the driver which may fix the issue as well.

=> Download and install the latest HPLIP release from
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html (automatic installer) or
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html (manual installation, if automatic installer does not work)

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
       => system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
      => su -c "hp-plugin"
             or
      => sudo hp-plugin (This will download right plugin)
       => hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=>Try printing now.

If problem does not get solved then please run following command to capture the logs and send the logs.

$su -c "hp-logcapture"

=>Document used for printing.

=>Scaned copy of printed document.

Hi,

Could you please tell us model name of the printer with which you are facing the issue??
To clean the ink cartridges, use 'hp-clean' command for inkjet printers. In case of any issues, post the result of command 'hp-check -t' here.

Or if you need something to be cleaned with the hardware of the printer, contact HP total care @ http://www8.hp.com/in/en/support-drivers/total-care/totalcare.html

Thanks and Regards

I have the HP officejet 6500. You state to clean the ink cartridges use hp-clean command. I do not know how to do this. I am learning but am not a computer geek. Please tell me how to do this. I will try the other thing and see if that helps. Thank You

I have cleaned all parts that the instructions talked about, but it did not do anything to clean the front face plate. Please help me with this problem as I have no problems with the scanner, copier, or any other components. Please see if there is anything I can do so I can read the commands and ink levels.
