I don't know how to install HP LIP on my Ubuntu 12.04 system

Asked by John Pym

I have just bought an HP printer (Deskjet 3055A) and I am trying to install the linux Ubuntu 12.04 driver. I download the HP LIP file but then nothing seems to happen. I tried opening a gnome-terminal but that doesn't seem to work either. Please can someone help?

Thanks.

John

Hi John,

Please install the hplip-3.13.5 direvers from the http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html.
Details steps given in this site.

In case, if you find any issue, please post the "hp-check" command output here.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Armanath,

many thanks for this response - it's much appreciated.

Being a traditional "MS" user, I must confess to being a bit lost when I come to install new stuff on my home PC, which has been running without problems on Ubuntu for a couple of years now.

I eventually got the HPLIP driver to install - although the process is far from intuitive under Linux - and all is well now.

Many thanks to you and the Linux community for offering a reliable alternative to MS.

Cheers

John
