reload hplip also forces reinstall of xsane?

Asked by Wolfman1

Reloading hplip causes me to also to have to go through convolutions to get 'scanner tool' (xsane) reloaded. Why?

I recently got "error: HPMUDEXT could not be loaded. Please check HPLIP installation." I have had this a couple of times in the last year and I always have to reinstall xsane also.

Thanks, Bob

Sorry I'm not exactly clear on the problem. Reinstalling hplip wont require a re-install of xsane. Least I have not encountered this. Is there some error or problem that prompts you to believe/do this?

I haven't seen the HPMUDEXT error...are you getting this error now? If you are getting the error it would be easier to troubleshoot.

As for you installing 2.7.12 and the output shows 2.7.7 it sounds like an install conflict. You could try removing the hplip installed

yum remove hplip

then uninstall the hplip 2.7.12

cd hplip-2.7.12
su -c "make uninstall"
su -c "rm -rf /usr/share/hplip"

and re-install hplip:

./install.py

If you continue to have a problem please run hp-check and post the output.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I am getting the hpmuxedt error now. Toolbox.py fails with this error when I try to run it.

I have run into the hpmuxedt problem before and any reinstall of hplip automatically stripped out xsane.

I understand about the versioning error, I will give that a try.

Thank you, Bob

I tried the steps listed below and everything is working correctly but
Package Manager (pirut) still shows 2.7.7 (see attachemnt). I guess
this would be a fedora error.

Thanks, Bob

Please run hp-check in terminal and post the output.

I think the problem is that the prepackaged 2.7.7 with fedora is still installed and there is a conflict between the old version and new version of hplip. If you remove hpllip using yum this may resolve this.

yum remove hplip

Otherwise if your printing is working you may not want to try and fix this, but it's up to you.

Setting to answered unless you need further assistance.

Thanks for your support of hplip!
