hp-setup fails

Asked by David Whitehouse

Centos 5.8 (Final). Kernel 2.6.18-308.13.1.el5PAE

Installed (Manual) hplip-3.12.6 without issue and ran hp-setup. It discovered all three of our HP printers (OfficeJet J6480, LaserJet P1102w and LaserJet 400 MFP m425dn). The Office Jet is installed successfully, but the others fail. A plug-in is required. It downloads and seems to install without issue, but then we get a message "The printer you are trying to set up requires a binary driver plug-in and it failed to install."

We ran hp-check -t (see output below). It appears to be looking for a number of packages, but they are not part of Centos/RedHat, as far as we know (e.g. CUPS-DDK). We tried hp-check --fix without success.

Any guidance you can us would be appreciated.

Thank you.

We uninstalled HPLIP-3.12.6 and installed HPLIP-3.12.9 (manual).

hp-check --fix was executed.

We still have the same issue (15 missing packages), so we have not mad any progress so far.

Would you like another copy of the log? It is basically the same.

What puzzles us about the missing packages is that they are not standard Centos packages. Is another repository required?

Thank you for your help.

Hi David,

Probably these packages mayn't be presented in the repository. If Printer working properly, ignore these warnings.
If printer is not working as expected, try to set another repository.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

The printer does not work (in Linux - it's fine in Mac OS).

If you look at the output I submitted, some packages do exist and are installed (e.g. python-devel). Some packages simply do not exist anywhere in the RedHat/Centos world (e.g. cups-ddsk), which makes me think the message may be incorrect. If you know of a repository where they exist, by all means let us know.

We do need guidance.

Thank you

Hi David,

Can you please install latest HPLIP 3.12.9 from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/centos.html

And if problem persists, provide us log files to analyse further by running following command (this command is available is not available in older versions like 3.12.6 and below).

$ su -c "hp-logcapture"

Note:_ please attach logs by creating "bug report" in this launchpad.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask David Whitehouse for more information if necessary.
