Error when trying to scan on my HP6500 Device

Asked by Shannon Batchelor

I am getting an error that says "No Scan Option" on my HP6500 printer/scanner/faxer when I try to scan. This device was given to me to use from my company and I was told that I should have the ability to scan. I read through the Troubleshooting Guide and have already installed the HP setup on my computer, so I am not sure what else to do.

Have you run the HP setup utility in root mode using command:

    sudo hp-setup

? Which program are you using to try to capture the scan?

If you have not actually run hp-setup, this would be the first step.

If you have run hp-setup, please provide additional information to help clarify the exact nature of the problem. For example, are you able to print to the printer? Are you able to verify that the device is attached correctly to the wireless network?

I have run the hp setup because when I checked today to try and install again, it said that the program had already been installed.

I am able to print to the printer and the fax seems to attempt to work, but then my faxes are never sent successfully. I am thinking that it is connected to the wireless network if I am able to print to the printer.

Just to clarify...

"hp-setup" is itself a program. There is a difference between the command:

   sudo apt-get install hp-setup

(which would install hp-setup on your computer) and the command:

   sudo hp-setup

which will actually execute the hp-setup program.

Have you actually executed the hp-setup program and followed the on-screen directions?

I actually found this install on the website last night and went through the hours it took to do the install and now my printer just reads "shutting down" and won't work at all. After I thought I went through the entire installation, it said, 'Error" and installation was not complete.
