Apt-get stalls on libsnmp5-dev

Asked by MGrosskopf

Apt-get generates an error when installing the dependencies (su -c "apt-get install libcupsys2 libcupsys2-dev build-essential python-dev python gs-esp libusb-dev lsb sane xsane sane-utils python-reportlab python-qt3 libsnmp5-dev openssl libjpeg62-dev libsane-dev python-imaging") Error only on the libsnmp5-dev file. the error says that libsnmp5-dev is not available. I have searched the sources list sites (as shown in the manual install) but nothing... file des not seem to exist anywhere...libsnmp5 IS installed on my system, but can't locate -dev.

Dist: Xandros 4
Printer : HP 7140 xi Office Jet (multi function)

Can you run:

apt-cache search snmp | grep dev

and post the output?

Thanks!

Okay, install libsnmp9-dev and then re-start the install process and it should (in theory) finish.

Hope this helps.

Aaron,

I don't think this will work for me on Xandros 4.0...let me explain:

libsnmp9-dev has a list of dependencies...some of which will not
install...because THEY each have dependencies...some of which will not
install...because...

And the circle grows. Is there any archive that would have libsnmp5-dev?

Thanks,

Mark

You may want to check with the Xandros forums...if it's available in the repository then in theory you should be able to install it...

According to this:

http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=23557&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15&sid=9d32d35dd2c89b69f10d403f922de26d

Some users have got it working using apt-get.

"apt-get install python-dev libsnmp5-dev libcupsys2-dev python-qt3 lsb libusb-dev"

So I'm not sure how come it's not working for you...

I'll do some testing regarding this after the new year.

Aaron,

I finally found libsnmp5-dev and installed it.

I got all of the dependencies to install, according to the HOW-TO, and
built HPLIP from source. It installed, but choked at the last minute.
I then used the "scripted" run file (hplip-2.7.12.run) and it seemingly
installed fine.

However, HPLIP won't run, because of some unmet
dependencies...Reportlab and Python2.3-qt3. Installing them seems to be
possible, but it basically replaces Xandros with Etch. Not willing to
do that, at this point

Is it possible to drop back a version or so of HPLIP and slide under the
dependencies?

Thanks,

Mark

Actually don't -need- python-qt3 to use hplip. You can still use the terminal applications to configure the printer and check the settings, etc.

To configure the printer run:

hp-setup -i

For a list of the other terminal apps check out:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/tech_docs/man_pages/index.html

and just make sure to run them with the interactive (usually -i) switch.

Hope this helps!
