Hi,

From above logs, seems like no device is found on USB (i.e. DISCOVERED USB DEVICES, No devices found). Can you please re-check whether USB is connected properly and device is powered on.

--> Please run the following command.
$ lsusb |grep Hewlett

If this command is displaying device , then printer is connected properly. Now try for printing.
If this command is not displaying anything, please check USB connection.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Thanks for your response. I'm a power Linux user, and of course I
checked the connection. Before Linux my PC are running Windows 7 and the
printer worked fine in it. By the way, the utility hp-setup does not
detect the printer unless you explicitly specify the Bus ID:Device ID

That's what gives lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 03f0: 042a Hewlett-Packard

I matured a question. Could it be that the USB subsystem in the Linux
more demanding on the quality of usb cable? I do not understand why the
printer is not automatically detected in the utility hp-setup. Although
if you delete the printer in system-config-printer and restart your
computer, the driver automatically configures it again.

Hi,
It seems smart install is enabled in Printer, (I.e. Printer is acting like CD drive).

To check whether smart install enabled, please run following command in terminal
$ lsusb -d 03f0:042a -v | grep bMumInterfaces

If bMumInterfaces = 1, then smart install feature has been enabled. If this is enabled, your device will be detected as CDRom from where you can install the software on windows. Unfortunately we don't support this feature in Linux as of now. If you disable this feature on device, your device will be detected in Linux. To disable this you should have a windows machine and can follow the below steps.

1. Download the Full Driver for Windows from www.hp.com
2. Run the exe, extract it to a folder.
3. Go to extracted folder/UTIL directory
4. Connect your device.
5. Run SIUtility.exe and follow the wizard to disable the feature.

Once above steps completed, hp-setup command can be used in Linux.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

Above command produces an empty result. In the output of command lsusb

not mistype?

Hmm,
/ bInterfaceClass 8 Mass Storage
     bInterfaceSubClass 6 SCSI/
looks like you're right.
but why this mode is on all the time? Is not that turn off
automatically? I will try to perform all steps that you prescribed.
but do not forget about mistype :) Google shows at least 4 results
(#199587,#197841,#197678,#201211 tickets) about b*M*umInterfaces.

You are right, it is "bNumInterfaces".
Thanks for catching the typo..

Please disable smart install as mentioned #3 comment.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath
