Aaron:

I do thank you for you help and I hope the following is helpful.

My environment where I am attempting to use the full functionality of
the Photosmart 2610 is:

1. The printer is networked @ 192.168.1.110 via a LinkSYS cable router.
2. I want to use the full functionality on my AMD Linux Version
    using Fedora Core 8.

The printer hp2610 is visible:

[phillipdjackson@cic ~]$ ping hp2610
PING cic.hp2610 (192.168.1.110) 56(84) bytes of data.

ms

The following is the output of sane-find-scanner:

[root@cic phillipdjackson]# sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

  # No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make
sure that

There are a few problems. First you'll need to install libnetsnmp-devel for the network printer to work correctly with hplip.

Also there are no printers configured using the hp:/ backend.

Run hp-setup

to configure the printer correctly.

Hope this helps.

I also uses HP Photosmart 2610 and Fedora 8, the downloaded driver hplip sure can not work.

But after a few hours of trying at this afternoon, I find that the printer itself use the same protocol of HP Jet Direct.

So, you may try to follows my step below:

System -> Administration -> Printing
After key-in root's password,
Press "New Printer" button

Under the setting tab, the third items, Device URI: type the followings
socket://192.168.1.110:9100 (I copy your printer IP here)

Don't forget to press the apply button.

The printer should be able accept print job now.

Although this may work for you, your printer is not configured using hplip and therefore will be missing all of the additional features that hplip supports.

If this works for you, great. If you want to continue troubleshooting how come hplip isn't working with your printer feel free to let me know.

All the best,

Aaron:

I tried your suggestion sent on Sunday and was able to print to the
HP2610.

However, I have tried on numerous occasions the following to install
libnetsnmp-devel but always get the following results:

[phillipdjackson@cic ~]$ su
Password:
[root@cic phillipdjackson]# yum install libnetsnmp-devel
fedora 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB
00:00
updates 100% |=========================| 2.3 kB
00:00
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package libnetsnmp-devel available.
Nothing to do

Where and/or how do I install libnetsnmp-devel?
