I have installed a LaserJet 1606DN printer and the automatic duplex printing insists on producing the pages in this order: 2-1, 4-3. That is, to read the document, I will have to manually shift each page so that they are in sequential order. I have already tried all the combinations of the options "collate" and "reverse" but I could not fix my problem yet. No matter the filetype I print, I always this issue. The printer is new and works fine, except for this problem in the order of the pages in the auto-duplex mode.

My problem is similar to this one: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-printing-and-scanning/duplex-printing-pages-are-wrong-way-round-with-MacBook/td-p/270903. The difference is that I use " Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx" and the issue described on that page is happening on a "MacBook snowleopard 10.6.3". His solution is not valid for me, since his problem was solved when an updated driver was released...

I use HPLIP 3.11.5. My kernel version is "2.6.32-32-generic-pae".

Hi Alexandre,

Please can you post us the output of "hp-check -t" command.
How did you install hplip-3.11.5 ? Through synaptic-package manager or from "hplip-3.11.5.run" file provided at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html. ?

Latest hplip-3.11.7 is released now. You can download it from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html and save it in you system. It will be hplip-3.11.7.run file.

You can install it by running the command "sh hplip-3.11.7.run"
After the install you will see a hplip-3.11.7 folder created in the same directory where hplip-3.11.7.run file is saved.
You can extract the PPD "hplip-3.11.7/ppd/hpcups/hp-laserjet_professional_p1606dn.ppd.gz" following the path. and open it with gedit/vim application and change the string "cupsEvenDuplex: True" to "cupsEvenDuplex: False" and save it.

Next, run "hp-setup" command and while adding the printer select the PPD that you had modified and add the printer. Let me know if you are seeing the same behaviour even after this change.

Thank you for the answer and for the attention.

I installed the old hplip-3.11.5 from the hplipopensource website, not from the synaptic. According to what you suggested, I installed the new hplip-3.11.7 version and modified the "hplip-3.11.7/ppd/hpcups/hp-laserjet_professional_p1606dn.ppd" file. Next, I ran the command hp-setup and, in the last step, just before adding the printer, I modified the ppd url so as to link to the file I changed. Then, to test, I printed a document with autoduplex and the problem was the same. :(

I think that, in order to have the autoduplex printing in the right order, we should have a "special" sequence of pages sent to the printer, it should be: 2-1-4-3-6-5-8-7....... If I put this sequence in the "Pages" part of the "Print Dialog" of the Adobe Reader, for example, then I will have the pages in the right order.

At the end of this message I post the output of "hp-check -t" for both the old (3.11.5) and the new (3.11.7) version of hplip.

Any other suggestion or idea will be very welcome.

Hello Sanjay,

Thank you very much for your time and attention regarding this problem. I installed HPLIP-3.11.12 version but, unfortunately, the problem is still the same :( . Everything was fine on the duplex mode, but the order of the pages. When I send a document with 4 pages to the printer and get the printed pages without changing anything, the top-bottom order is: 4-3-1-2.

Is the problem really fixed or am I doing something wrong? Below I send the output of the "hp-check -t" command after installing HPLIP-3.11.12 version. In this output, please consider only the printer "HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1606dn_4", that was installed by the new hplip software (3.11.12).

=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands mentioned below.
       =>system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
       =>hp-setup (for adding print queue)
=>Enable/Clear Logs as mentioned below
    a)Open /etc/cups/cupsd.conf in root mode and replace
        LogLevel warn
          with
       LogLevel debug
       hpLogLevel 15
    b) Open Terminal and run following commands:
       => su
       => /etc/init.d/cups restart
                  or
       => service cups restart
       => cd /tmp
       => rm *.out
       => rm *.bmp
       => cat dev/null > /var/log/cups/error_log
       => hp-check -t > /tmp/hpcheck.log
    c) Try to print the file and If issue is not resolved then please send following files
          => /var/log/syslog (if present),
          => /var/log/messages (if present),

Hi,

I see it is quite old, but it seems it wasn't resolved:

Our new printer HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn prints in incorrect order too (2 1 4 3 ...) with hplip 3.12.4 - I went through setup and didn't find anything what could cause this problem. (system CentOS 6.5)

I think printing in duplex is fine, but problem is in one-side printing - our storemen print on tagsheets and they need to have them prepared in exact order.

We have many various hp printers and this problem happens only with this new model.

How should I proceed now?

Install the latest hplip? I don't like that idea much, because all other printers are ok and if something did go wrong it would be real pain...
