Deskjet 1050 scanner won't work

Asked by Pedroski

I bought a HP Deskjet 1050 yesterday. The printer works fine, but any attempt at scanning comes up with 'device busy' I do not suspect any mechanical error, because it is new, and it works with my son's Windows computer. I have gimp and xsane installed. Any tips out there? Thanks!
Here is the output of hp-check -r

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper
dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi Pedroski,

Can you please try this with latest HPLIP (3.11.3a) release. You can download the same from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html

Thanks for using HPLIP

Thanks and Regards,

Thanks for your reply.

I did the install of the latest version of hplip. It installed a lot of things.

If I start xsane now, the windows go black when I click Preview scan, then after a while I get 'failed to start scanner: error during device IO'

or this:

[pedroski@fangshan ~]$ scanimage -d hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW -T
scanimage: sane_start: Error during device I/O

As I said, the printer is new, as is the cable, and it works on another,
Windows computer. I get no SE Linux context errors, so I don't think that is
the source of the problem.

Little update: I restarted the computer twice after installing and running hp-setup, but still couldn't scan. I unplugged the Deskjet and then plugged it in again. Now it works!!! I can scan under Linux!

Thanks for your advice, looks like the problem is solved, whatever it was.
