suddenly can't print

Asked by Steve Lathan

Running Obuntu 10.04. After years of printing fine on HP Photosmart c4480, now can't print. Printer is on, no error messages show, can see no mechanical or hardware problems. Printer goes "idle" before printing.

Ani,
Successfully downloaded 3.11.1, but still won't print.  Was able to print a test page, but can't print other files.  Printer just says "printing", but no activity.

Reran  the hp check command and keep getting message that xsane is missing.  Run command to load, nothing seems to load.  Per synaptic package manager, xsane is there.

I'm extremely frustrated.

Ani,
Thank you for all your help.  Below is the output you requested.  Upon further examination, however, it appears to be a print queue issue with a particular website; I am not having any print problems on other print applications.  So, maybe I've wasted your time.   Sorry.

Hi,

Can you try following.
=> Reconfigure print queue with the commands in the terminal mentioned below.
       => system-config-printer (remove all print queues)
      => su -c "hp-plugin"
             or
      => sudo hp-plugin (This will download right plugin)
       => hp-setup (It should not be run in a root mode. This command is adding print queue, make sure you select ppd name having "-ps" or "hpcups" substring)
=>Try printing now.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Steve Lathan for more information if necessary.
