Colorprinting with D5460 is bad

Asked by Hartmut

I have two printers: C7280 and D5460 When I print a page with a Photo on it with the C7280, the output is OK. When I print the same page with the same machine on the D5460 the output looks like posterised (6 Colors in Gimp) wtih different colors (green and magenta in sahara-sand). Black printing of test is good. The testpage printed from the same computer is OK. Ink-level is good. I had good result with this printer with hplip 3.8.x a year ago. But that was with Opensuse 11.1 and now its Opensuse 11.3. Changing hplip to the last version gives the same result as with 3.10.2. hp-check output is good.

What can I do to find the reason for this behavior?

I don't know the answer but have in mind
that HPLIP provides two drivers: HPIJS and HPCUPS.

Perhaps the issue happens only with one driver, compare
https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/139872
and
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630696

If it works with one driver but not with the other one,
report a bug regarding the non-working driver at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/
