Ubuntu 10.10 Driver for C310 Printer

Asked by quarkrad

I have bought a C310 HP printer/scanner and note that the latest driver available is for Ubuntu 10.04 software. For numerous reasons I had to upgrade my Ubuntu distribution from 10.04 to10.10 and now have a satisfactory system. However, I have had to downgrade back to 10.04 in order to connect and use my C310 printer/scanner. I am happy with the 10.04 driver and have a good level functionality from my C310 but I need to migrate back to Ubuntu 10.10. I have two questions 1. Will there be a Ubuntu 10.10 driver available on the hplip web site and 2. How do I find out when it is available?

Hi,

Ubuntu 10.10 support will be provided in the next HPLIP release. For auto installation patch for Ubuntu 10.10, please visit https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+faq/1356.

Thanks and Regards

Ani,

Thank you - actually I did come across this during my initial struggles
to get 3.10.9 working under 10.10. Unfortunately, as a newbie, it did
not mean a lot to me. I think I can understand what the text is doing
but it does not help me in terms of installing the driver under 10.10.
It looks to me that the steps are:

Process
1. open installer/distroes.dat file in the hplip-3.10.9 directory
2. copy & paste the text on the file
3. from hplip-3.10.9 directory launch ./install.py file

My Problems

1. I do have a usr/share/doc/hplip-3.10.9 folder but there is no .dat file
2. copy & paste into the .dat file? I assume replace what is there by
this new text - but where is the .dat file?
3. do not understand this - and were is this ./install.py file?

I'm not sure what to do from here - it looks like this is an answer but
it is not clear to me how it is executed.

Thanks,

Graham
