Deskjet 3050-J610, missing filter message, won't print, Linux Ubuntu 10.10 here, installed HPLIP and dependancies, don't know what "filter" it wants. I'm on Toshiba satalite,

Asked by daethyme

I have loaded HPLIP driver for Ubuntu 10.04 from HP Linux web page, all dependencies listed as the command line stated them, brand new HP printer, won't print. Says "printer rejecting jobs, 702 & missing filter" when I try to engage printer w. print test page.

I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 now. Maverick on a Toshiba

Thank you. I've had Ubuntu about two years, still learning, beginner level. Instructions must be simple to follow.

Hi,

Ubuntu 10.10 is not supported in the latest HPLIP release(will be supported in the next release). Please follow the auto installation patch for Ubuntu 10.10 at https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+faq/1356. Hope this helps you.

Thanks and Regards

Thank you. I'm excited that there is a solution to this issue. However, I'm
not sure what the directions mean. How do I apply this patch from the
terminal. Can you please give me step by step instructions as to exactly
what I type in to the command line?

I cannot find a way to open that file. I've tried text editor, archive
manager, Windows Text, with no luck. How do I put in this patch from the
command line or ?
I don't recognise what the patch language is that you sent. That's how new I
am. I see that Python has something to do with that patch but have no idea
how to access it.
I hope I am asking the right questions here.
thank you,
d.

Hi,

You have to edit distroes.dat file in one of the Linux editor like vi as a root user. In the patch given, lines started with + sign need to be added, - to be removed and no sign should leave unchanged. Don't bother about the symbols at the beginning of patch. The first line you have to modify is '-versions=5.04,5.1,6.06,6.10,7.04,7.10,8.04,8.04.1,8.04.2,8.10,9.04,9.10,10.04' under [ubuntu] section.
If you are not familiar with editors, i will not recommend you to do that. Please wait for our next release

 Sorry for making you confused.

Thanks and Regards
