problem installing hplip

dear sir

i tried to install hplip-3.10.5 on my ubuntu 9.04.
i downloaded the file from hplipopensource website the files name is
"hplip-3.10.5.run" and i run the command from terminal "sh
hplip-3.10.5.run and the automatic installer started installing hte
hplip but at the make command the installation stoped say the message
'error make command failed with status code 2
pls help me installing and solving this error

Please remove space character in hplip-310.5 directory.
Ex: /home/hp lip/hplip-3.10.5 to /home/hplip/hplip-3.10.5

Please remove space character in hplip-3.10.5 directory path.
Ex: /home/hp lip/hplip-3.10.5 to /home/hplip/hplip-3.10.5

Can you please run "pwd" in hplip-3.10.5 directory and post the output.
Also run "make" and post the output where you got error.

The below is the output of the command "make" that is ran in the director of hplip-3.10.5 in the terminal.

itfsd@itfsd-desktop:~/Desktop/hplip-3.10.5$ make
/bin/bash ./libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -I/usr/include/python2.6 -g -O2 -module -avoid-version -lsane -o scanext.la -rpath /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages scanext_la-scanext.lo -lcrypto
grep: /usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/3.4.3/../../..//libusb.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/3.4.3/../../..//libusb.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/3.4.3/../../..//libusb.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make: *** [scanext.la] Error 1

and this is the out put of the command "pwd"

Can you please remove hplip-3.10.5 directory and try re-running .run file.
Remove space character before run .run file.
As per make output, it look like some path problem with libtool archives.

Please run "echo $PATH" and post the output.

Also, please give us the complete output of
1. ./configure --prefix=/usr
2. make

if your printer is supported by hplip which come with your synaptic package manager then,
You can also install HPLIP from synaptic package manager by running sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-data hpijs"
