Double Sided Scanning with ADF

Asked by EDEMPCO

Double side scanning using the top of the printer (ADF) seems to be a capability that we had in the past with some HP printers and supporting drivers. More recently, we don't have the drivers and the hardware is setting there unused. Is there any possibility that the HPLIP software needed to "tickle" the ADF motors to do double side scanning will be forthcoming? Can we help to bump this feature to the top of the request stack?

I'm currently using two HP all-in-one printers and need to do a lot of double side scanning to archive documents. I have an HP7400 and a HP6500.

Can anyone give us an idea when double-side scanning might be available?

Thanks for contacting HPLIP!

HPLIP support ADF scanning. We query from the printer if it support ADF scanning based on that scanning happens.
We need to select ADF scanning option in XSANE application.

From which application you are trying to SCAN?
Are you providing ADF option while scanning?

Thank you for your response.

I am using XSane version: 0.996. The ADF (automatic document feeder) works
"automatically" to scan one side. ADF for one side scanning works currently.

I need double side scanning. How can I get XSane to scan both sides of a
document using my All-In-One printer (HP7400 series). I am able to scan both
sides with Windows(tm), but have not found how to do it in Ubuntu (9.10)
using XSane.

Can you help?

You need to select duplex option from XSANE UI. Go to advanced option in XSANE and select duplex.

I have XSane version 0.996 and an HP All-In-One, Office Jet 7400. When I go
to "Advanced Options", the window does not have a check box or radio button
to select a duplex option.

I assume that the printer is polled by XSane, each time the program is
opened. During the polling (that is done wirelessly), the XSane program
should identify the components of the printer. In my case, the duplex option
does not show up.

Is there a way to force the duplex option to show? Please note that I use
this option all of the time using Windows XP and Adobe Acrobat 8.

We have added duplex support later. In models.dat file you need to change scan-type value to 6 (SCL Duplex) for your devices. Currently for products HP7400 it is without duplex. I will logging same as defect.

Please let me know if it helps you. If you find difficulty to modify the models.dat, I can help you on that.

I accessed the models.dat file at the "super user" level. Saved the file as
models-old.dat as a backup. Changed the "scan-type" value from zero to 6.
Save the file as models.dat. Activated the new file. Reopened Xsane and
found no change.

Was there something else I should have done?
