HPLIP says OK, but no print comes out

Asked by Keith Tynan

Help please!

ENVIRONMENT
I have an HPLJ1000 attached to a desktop running SUSE11.2.
This desktop is hard-wired to a Netgear 834N gateway and provides its printer to LAN members using SAMBA.
There is one Windows-Vista and one Windows-7 laptop on this LAN (both wireless).

PROBLEM
I can print from the SUSE desktop without any problem.
Whenever I try to print from either Windows laptop, the print seems to go OK form the source, then shows completed in the HPLIP Device Manager, without any print being delivered.

The following links give some details:
* Here's the Device Manager Status after a Windows print (no output): http://www.zen50505.zen.co.uk/HPLIP/20100402LaptopK-to-Medusa.png
* Here's my hp-check output (only 3 optional/runtime warnings): http://www.zen50505.zen.co.uk/HPLIP/hp-check.log-20100501

ATTEMPTED SOLUTION
All users are members of the 'lp' group.
I've tried setting /dev/bus/usb to 777 and root.lp ownership - but to no effect.

Regards,
Keith Tynan

We have one feature in HPLIP, Auto refresh. HPLIP sends get printer status command to the printer after specific interval.
Please go to HP device manager ------> Configure --> Preference and see the settings.

I guess this the reason why when you are printing from windows and it is showing up in the HPLIP.

Please go to the HPLIP Preference and un-check "Enable device auto refresh" option.
Thanks for contacting the HPLIP

Yashwant,

I think perhaps you miss the point....?

Although what you suggest does indeed suppress the 'Started a print job', 'Print job completed' messages in the HP Device Manager Status tab, the print still fails to come out! I'm not particularly worried about seemingly redundant messages in Device Manager, I would just like my print to be delivered!

Could it be anything to do with the fact that drivers for the HPLJ1000 are not provided for either Vista-32 or W7-32 (according to the HP website)?

THREAD ABANDONED BY AUTHOR

Unable to resolve this, just got an HP LJ P1102w, which works perfectly from Windows 7 (32-bit) and Windows Vista (32-bit).
I haven't yet managed to get SuSE 11.2 to accept the USB connector for configuration with HPLIP, but that's for another thread...)

Can you help with this problem?
