trouble connecting HP CM1312nfi MFP using HPLIP

I installed the latest hplip obtained from the hplipopensource.com site. Printing appears to work but output is continuously delayed/deferred in the queue. It appears that I am having difficulty communicating with the printer. I am able to ping the printer and have snmpwalk output that looks reasonable. Following is the output from hp-check:

Problem resolved. I was not (and perhaps should have been) aware of the "HP Service Status" application.
Running this tool and re-setting the interface from the apparent default of USB to network solved my problem.
Perhaps a pointer to this tool could be added to the troubleshooting section...

"HP Service Status" is installed onto the toolbar. I had been trying to simply print using text-like tools without success. Then I tried this tool, when to the Help page and found what you will see in "HPLIP Device Manager0". The main display showed the MFP fax and printer as well as my old HP1020 which was no longer connected to the computer - see "HPLIP Device Manager1". This page displayed the error message "5012" that had showed up in the output from "hp-check -t". Once I configured the MFP to communicate with the network rather than the USB, the printer worked as well as the scanner. (I have not tried the fax)

It looks to me like the HP CM1213nfi MFP will work as well under Ubuntu as it does under Windows XP without the bloatware that gets in the way every time you boot the machine. It certainly works better than under Windows 7...

I am a noob to Ubuntu so am still climbing the learning curve liking what I see to this point. Previous experience with DEC and Sun systems will help me a bit, but the Unix/Linux world has certainly changed - and for the better.
