grayscale problem b8850

Asked by David Vincent-Jones

hplip 3.9.12 with Photosmart Pro B8850
Previously reported bug, no response to date.

Grayscale printing simply will not function!
General set as High quality Grayscale
Quality set as 600 dpi, Grayscale, Black Cart.

Image prints as 12 'bands' over letter size landscape.
Appears to be only 12 passes of the heads.
Is correctly using the inks but quality is terrible.

Printer works correctly under MS OS.
Prior bug report provided full terminal data.

Tried printing under CUPS, HP Device Man., and several programs all fail.
Printer working correctly with color options.

Help would be appreciated.
Thank you;

David

Can you install lastest vesion of HPLIP (3.10.2) from http://hplipopensource.com/, and check if they print OK. I have tested this printer on Ubuntu 9.10 and it prints without any issues. Please remove the old print queues, and re-configure the printer.

What you have proposed is exactly what I have done (several times).
It appears that I am unable to fully flush-out the previous version(s)
of the driver and the Photosmart Pro keeps finding the old 3.9.8
embedded driver.

If I can find a way to totally eliminate the old driver then I may have
some chance of success.

Can you please run hp-check -t and post it here.

It will give me fair idea of the configuration or installation issues.

Below is the KB article for uninstall:

Thanks,

The Grayscale issue ( after manual removal of older drivers) is now solved.
