hp-setup doesn't discover hp Deskjet F2480 printer

Asked by ed

Problem:
I have all-in-one device hp Deskjet F2480 conected to usb port of Fedora 12 x86_64.
When I installed hplip 3.9.12 everything was OK. I've printed and scaned with it.
Suddenly it stoped to work. I removed the printer in hp-setup hoping that
hp-setup will discover my printer and everything will be OK.
But this doesn't happend. Now hp-setup doesn't see my printer.
I don't know what to do.
When I turn the printer on there is warrnig:
"There is no driver for HP Deskjet F2400 series"

I install all coming updates.
Just before the event I've installed samba in my system.

Here is the output of hp-check -t command (I've added translations of messages
that were not in english in curly brackets):

Is the behavior same with root user?

Also , share the syslog. Below are the steps:
        (*) Disconnect the printer.
        (*) Run:
                 sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog
(*) Reconnect the printer and send a job to print.

Post all of the output in syslog.

Thanks,

Hi, anup
The answar on your first question is yes,
when I run hp-setup as root the printer is not discovered and on console there

Thanks for sharing all the logs!

From error message , it seems problem with "models.dat" file. Can you please open this file in an editor and search for string [deskjet_f2400_series]

file path : /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat

If either this file is not found or the string is not seen , you'd need to re-install hplip. Let me know of the same.

Thanks for the support to HPLIP!

Hi, anup
Sorry, for that late answer. I have not been home for several days.
There is /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat file in my system.
But there is no [deskjet_f2400_series] string in it.
So I have to re-install hplip I supose.
Please write me, have I uninstall the actual hplip first?
Yours, Edward

models.dat file should have the above string. It seems to me older version of file still existing.

Can you please re-install the package. After uninstall please cross-check whether the above file has been removed. This should solve the problem.

Thanks,

A

Qt libraries are used for the GUI by hplip.

Were you able to see the printer dialog on running hp-setup command. If not , you can still add the printer in non-gui mode. You can get the instructions of usage by running below command

hp-setup -h

Thanks,

A

GNOME is trying to use Qt for rendering (with the GTK_QT theme engine) while you are using QGtkStyle in Qt. You have to change either one to a different style. For instance in GNOME, run "gnome-appearance-properties" and change the theme to something other than "Qt". Or run "qtconfig" to change your Qt theme to something other than "GTK".

Hope this resolves your issue.

Thanks,
~Adhir

Hi, anup
Hi, Adhir
I get the message
"QGtkStyle cannot be used together with the GTK_Qt engine.
Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported"
when I run hp-setup with the su -c "hp-setup" command.
I don't got it when I run hp-setup command as a root or as a usual user. I will not worry about it.
Problem is solved. I've re-installed the hplip and I can print and scan.
Thank you.
