Homebank under Windows

Asked by peersi

I've used Homebank under Ubuntu and it's really good ! When I try running it on Windows 7 on my new PC (also does same thing on Vista) it works fine BUT my security product Secunia tells me that there is a GTK security problem with libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll . The software gives me an option to download a solution which involves a zip file with an updated version of libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll
I have tried substiuting the new file for the old version and it gets rid of the alarm but the screen behaves weirdly. When I open Homebank up the account summary page is blank until I move the mouse up and down on the page ( I don't have to press any buttons on the mouse) The same thing happens on all subsuquent pages I open. The application is just about usable but would be great if I could get a cure from your good selves.
As I said at the beginning Homebank is an excellent product and I would dearly like to keep running it

best regards ....

The PC I use mostly is a 64 bit windows 7 machine although the same conditions appl on my Vista laptop which both have Secunia installed on them (see http://secunia.com/)

You should not have upgraded the .dll. I don't know why secunia warn you about a problem, what was ths alert about ?
What is the homebank package version you uses?

Gtk is composed of several dll that are dependend each other, so upgrading for example a 2.16 into all other 2.14 is a very bad idea, and that the reason why you have the display problems.

I switch to my vista, right now to check if i have any alert on homebank package with avast.

Hi Maxine,
thanks for your email. I have deleted version 4.1 off
my PC and installed 4.2 Beta even though I'm a bit nervous about using
unstable software. However I'm glad to say that this version of Homebank
does not fail on Secunia so I'll give it a go. I can only assume the dll
I quoted in my original email was out of date and that this new version
of Homebank has upgraded it.
Many thanks for your help (I didn't think I could just get away with
changing just the one file but hey there you go)

best regards ...
Ian

Ok, just be carefull and make a strng backup of your file regularly if you continue using v4.2 beta.
It is out for a week now, and no one reported any bugs, but we never know.

Upgrading to the non stable version has cured the problem
