I understand your idea completely, which I think quite reasonable. However, i'm feeling not quite practical.
For password protection, I chmod the executable file. it's acceptable.
For data encryption, I still can not find a way. I'm using TrueCrypt for regular backup. Crypted data is only for storage, unrecognised by HomeBank program. Do I have to un-crypt the data file, run HomeBank and crypt data file each time?

truecrypt or identical solution enable to create an encrypted partition or pseudo partition which is crypted and useable on the fly I think.
