Password Protect

Asked by MathUHenry

Is there a way to password protect my financial data backup files as was done in Quicken? I see that the QIF can readily be opened and read without password security. I'm using 4.0.2 on Ubuntu 8.10 in an i386 machine. Thank you.

No there isn't.
This is out of the scope of HomeBank.
There is a lot of solutions to protect datas on a computer (TrueCrypt, PGP) for that purpose.

Further to MathUHenry's question, are there any plans to build password protection into HomeBank?
This would, I am sure be a useful feature for most HomeBank users. At present my financial data would be transparent to anyone with access to my PC.
I am running the programme on Windows Vista 64 bit.
Many thanks in anticipation for any assistance.

Yes I agree, financial software is completely useless without the ability to password protect it,

@graham:
No I do not plan to do this for the moment. I think there is some blueprint or a wish bug relating to this already thus.
Give it a try to truecrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org) or google on the subject there is some solutions.

@tim:
Obviously I'm not at all agree. A financial app manage finance datas, and a security program should deal with security. All software should have some limits. I think it is better to use external proven and reliable solutions than implement a smokescreen.

Adding to this, I think it make sense and it is more convenient to protect data globally on a computer, instead of being annoyed to seize a password every time you open a file with an application. Users can choose the security solution that fit their security level needs and the way they protect their data's.
