Over writing old with changed data

Asked by Carolyn Bray

If I put in data time and data value and then over-write the same metric time with a data value - have I double stored? Or over-written? Just want to understand the behind the scenes logic.
I believe the double-stored would mean that the retention time would be shorted since I've filled one of the points twice.

Graphite overwrites data sent to the same timeslot. You will have only the second value sent stored in Graphite.
