cannot use ssh remote login since upgrading router

Asked by Saul Lubkin

Yesterday I installed a new wireless router, a Cisco Linksys, replacing my old ancient router (also a Linksys). Since doing this, when I try to remotely login to my computer, I get the message, "connection refused".

Help much appreciated.

I should note that, when I try a remote login to the home Ubuntu computer,

ssh <email address hidden>

(or equivalently ssh saul@74.74.214.74 -- that's the current IP address of
the home system, as seen from the internet)

 I get the answer:

ssh: connect to host lubkin.dyndns.org port 22: Connection refused.

My local address is 192.168.1.100, which I believe is exactly what I want.

I suspect that I have to somehow configure the router to not "refuse"
connections on port 22.

I know how to get into my router -- but I don't know what to do, after that.

Help much appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

-- Saul

I've solved my problem!

I looked at a previous answer given by actionparsnip to a related, but different, question, that I posed about half a year ago -- and, with the information provided there, and also with the help of my ITS-smart youngest daughter :),
succeeded in programing my new router router so that incoming ssh and scp commands were correctly redirected by the router to my computer.

All is working well now.
