Hi Lisa,

The only version of ESyS-Particle requiring a username and password is the Live DVD. This is now quite outdated and no longer supported. It is best you download the latest stable release from launchpad and install it on a PC running ubuntu linux.

The source code can be downloaded from here:
http://launchpad.net/esys-particle/2.1/esys-particle-2.1/+download/ESyS-Particle-2.1.tar.gz

and instructions for installation on ubuntu are here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/esys-particle/+faq/1613

Cheers,

Dion

Unfortunately, Esys-Particle will unlikely can be run on non-POSIX
systems e.g. windows.

If you want to use it, you can install user-friendly distribution,
where you need minimal linux-knowledge. I would recommend you Ubuntu,
in this case esys-particle can be installed easily from packages
without need to compile the source. All necessary dependencies will be
installed automatically.

Hi Lisa,

Yes, ESyS-Particle can be installed on most Linux distributions. You need to ensure you have downloaded and installed three mandatory packages before attempting to compile ESyS-Particle:

1) Python and its development libraries
2) All the Boost headers and libraries (including the development libraries)
3) OpenMPI or mpich

It is recommended that you also install POVray but this is not mandatory.

Cheers,

Dion.

Hello Lisa.

I expect that Fedora has a package manager which will allow you to install Python, Boost and OpenMPI as packages. This is a simpler process than building and installing them from source code. Having said that, I do recommend that you continue with Anton's suggestion and persevere with the latest Ubuntu. This currently provides the most streamlined approach to installing ESyS-Particle, installing automatically all these other packages on which ESyS-Particle depends (https://answers.launchpad.net/esys-particle/+faq/1792).

If you cannot find people in your organization with expertise to assist you with Ubuntu , try this website for OS support: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/.

Regards,

Vince
