Few questions (suggestions) regarding user experience

Asked by Abhinav

First , Thanks a lot for creating such a beautiful distro :) and a great out of box experience you guys are providing. Nonethless I want to improve this OS more so I would like to offer a few points:

1. There's no option to configure what closing my laptop's lid does. It directly sleeps. While this is the default behaviour , but there are some instances where I would like it should just lock my screen and keep doing/downloading my stuff.

2. The top panel ,idk what it's called , but it is a lot buggy. Sometimes it would just turn black sometimes hold my background image color. The usual behaviour is , I would login -> it would be transparent ... then I would open lets say firefox , it would remain transparet ... then I would open files -> it suddenly turns black and remains black even after I close all applications till I logout :(. Black panel dosen't looks good :/ BTW I have Nvidia Optimus and both Intel and Nvidia show this behaviour.

3. The scrollbars (default) are two narrow. believe me on a smaller screen , they are quiet annoying when I try to drag them and they don't follow :| . Adding a little ( just a little little) width will help a lot :) .

4. The default files application becomes unresponsive sometimes ( usually when opening 5-6 instances ) , and this shouldn't happen ... right?

5. The OS won't install in UEFI mode till I chose to 'download updates while installing'. Following that I have a limited low speed (60kbps) internet access , providing a updated ISO should solve this problem. Any help out there :(

6. Most Icon themes don't fit well with this OS. For example try to install and apply Numix/Moka anything. First of all there icons on the top panel will be inconsistent in size. Some large some small. This only happens in EOS and not in Ubuntu so it might be something else. And and and another thing is , when I select the monochromatic icons on dark theme so they are white in color , they don't fit well with notifications. See the notification that pops up is white in color and icons are too , so they are hard to see. I hope you are getting me.

7. I loved that feature terminal provides notification too , can we take it to next level too. Usually I am downloading some things in the terminal and I know it would require a input when its finished downloading so I have to just keep on checking and checking all the time which is super annoying. Take installing mysql as an example when it asks you to setup password , or installing 153M oracle java and other things too when they ask you input. It would be great if notification would tell me if terminal is asking me for some input so that it can proceed further.

8. Super+L dosen't lock my screen , but manually clicking on Power icon -> Lock , locks it for me.

9. The videos application is great , except it lags the seek preview when you try to use seek time. To reproduce , open a large file and constantly move seek time so that you see the seek preview moving too. And please introduce a speed up video feature too , along with slow down. Some professors tend to speak a little slower :p and sometimes it goes over my head haha.

Thanks again :)

Thanks for the feedback! Please open bugs for your issues at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementary so developers see them and can
address them.
