Can incomplete backups be restored from?

Asked by Adam Porter

If I backup a large set of files, and the backup operation is aborted before it completes, can I restore files from the parts of the backup that did complete? I suppose this would be a kind of worst-case scenario, but I could see it happening if a user backed up his entire home directory over a slow connection and it just never quite completed.

+1 Weird that questions get automatically closed after 15 days, don't a lot of questions go unnoticed that way?

Incomplete backups would be missing two files that are only output at the
end of the run, the manifest file, and the signatures file. It would not be
possible to use duplicity in its current form to restore an incomplete
backup, however, the sigtar files could be restored with a great deal of
manual work and some scripting if you trusted that they were not corrupt.

As to missing answers, yes, we do miss some. The normal venue is the
discussion list that everyone monitors.

I'm in the same situation... backup was incomplete and manifest file/signature file are missing :(
I can only restore some small files manually using gpg duplicity-full.20120119T234055Z.vol1.difftar.gpg and then opening difftar file by some archive manager. Unfortunately large files are splitted into parts.
Is there any way to combine them? It's very important for me. :(

Can you help with this problem?
