Frame analysis in Dolphin/Fenics

Asked by DougB

This is pretty general question. Can Fenics/Dolphin be applied to solve 3D frame analysis problems (ie. using beam/truss elements)? All of the examples shown on the Fenics website are for 2D and 3D continuum problems. If Fenics has been applied to 3D frame analyses, is there an example file available somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what beam/truss elements are so most likely the answer is no.

The form compiler FFC does not presently support n-dimensional elements in an m-dimensional space where n < m, so it does not support beams or trusses without some trickery. DOLFIN should be able to support such cases, but it is untested.

Can you help with this problem?
