can't drag and drop from ubuntu menu

Asked by dhammabum

well folks, i've tried asking elsewhere, with no response, so hoping someone here can help

I used to be able to drag and drop launch icons from the ubuntu menu (alt-f1) into/onto docky launcher, but can no longer do so. indeed, when clicked on (again alt-f1), the menu icons neither highlight nor can they be moved within the menu themselves.

I realise this is probably not a docky specific question, but since no one else seems able or interested to help, and since I would like to drag said icons to the docky specifically, am hoping someone here can help.

thank you very much in advance.

p.s. using ubuntu maverick 10.10 , kernel 2.6.35-22-generic, GNOME 2.31.92 on Sony Vaio SZ487N, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 driver 260.19.06

Are you using Nautilus to draw your desktop? Or compiz?

I think it's compiz. I don't fiddle too much with those settings, indeed, pretty much use what comes standard with the distribution. That said, Extra is checked off in Appearance/Visual Effects, which leads me to believe it's compiz.

Is there a way to check definitively?

You can look in CCSM and see if it is drawing the desktop. If that is the case, there is an open bug regarding this situation. Basically, if Nautilus doesn't draw your desktop then you can't drag launchers to Docky from the menu.

Can you help with this problem?
