Access to Diodon in Linux Mint 17.1

Asked by Nathan Sivin

I have installed Diodon in every version of Linux Mint from 15 on, in every case using the OS's software manager. I'm now using Mint 17.1 Mate. After installing Diodon, and checking in the software manager that it is actually installed, I have no way to use it. It doesn't appear in Nautilus's list of installed programs, searching for it doesn't reveal it, I can't put it on the desktop, nor is it in the list of applets that can be added to the panel. Unless you have a fix, I will once again have to uninstall it and install Parcellite (Glipper has the same problem).

What version of Diodon are you using?

It sounds like you are experiencing this issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/diodon/+bug/1348989 which has been solved in version 1.2.0...

Can you please confirm? Thanks.

The version I use is the one provided by the Linux Mint 17.1 software
manager, 1.0.2-0ubuntu2. Can you tell me how to get a version more
recent than that, which will not cause other problems with Ubuntu-based
OS/s?

Cheers,

Nathan

I followed your instructions in your bug report for installing v. 1.2.0. I was then able to add Diodon to the panel. But when I select something fot the keyboard, or copy it with ctrl-C, the history continues to read "<empty>". In other words, the new version still doesn't work.

I read your explanation of how to avoid the Zeitgiest library's blocking
the Clipboard History. You say
'
Zeitgeist has a privacy feature so it is possible to disable recording
of any users’ events. This option is to be found in your “System
Settings” -> “Security & Privacy” -> “Files & Applications” where it
says “Record file and application usage”. When you turn this option off
no users’ events will be recorded including copy events by Diodon.' The
screenshot indicates that you are referring to Ubuntu system settings.

I am using Linux Mint 17.1, which has no menu item called "system
settings" or, for that matter, "security and privacy." I have no idea
what the Mint equivalent is. Can you tell me how to turn "record file
and application usage" in Mint?

Many thanks,

This is another issue which has been fixed in the development version but has not been released as stable edition yet.

What you need to do is to install zeitgeist with the following command:
sudo apt-get install zeitgeist-core

and then restart Diodon and it should work then.

It works! Thanks very much. I would suggest you provide to people installing Diodon the information you have given me.
