Encryption Specifications

Asked by thotheolh

Deja Dup claims to be encrypted backup but there are no encryption specifications presented.

I followed:"https://answers.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+question/69532"

And also looked into the duplicity links included but found that it's GnuPG.

GnuPG has many cipher suites, modes and key sizes. Which cipher suite, mode and keysize is used from GnuPG to encrypt the data files ?

I added a section on encryption to the HowItWorks section of the wiki: http://live.gnome.org/DejaDup/HowItWorks#Encryption

Here is that section:

Déjà Dup relies on duplicity to handle the encryption, and it uses gpg with a symmetric cipher. Basically, that means it is encrypted just with the password your provide. You will need to remember that password to restore your data.

If you choose to have Déjà Dup remember your password, it will be stored in the default GNOME keyring.

Can you help with this problem?
