What does "ddrescue: invalid option -f" mean?

Asked by Alex Ransome

Hi,

I'm VERY new to Ubuntu (still don't understand where my applications folder is!!!), but I'm desperate to learn and use ddrescue to try and perform some DR on a very important HDD.

Anyway to the question in hand.

I've installed ddRescue GUI and have started off the process and before it starts an alert pops up and says ...

We didn't get ddrescue's initial status! This probably means ddrescue aborted immediately ...

and underneath that ...

ddrescue:invalid option -f

Is that to do with "fill given type areas"?

And what do I need to do to fix it so I can get my wife's photos of our children back.

Thanks very much for what looks like an awesome program.

Hi Alex,

Could you tell me what operating system and you're using please? Also could you tell me what version of DDRescue-GUI you're running?

Thanks,
Hamish

I have been able to use ddRescue using the CLI.

I should say that as I'm sooo new to Ubuntu, my preference would be for the GUI.

Hi,

Yes I totally understand, but am glad you could get it to work in the terminal in the mean time :)

The error is ddrescue saying the the -f option (--force, required when recovering to a device) isn't available, although it should be on your operating system, so this is a little baffling XD

Could you take a screen-shot of the settings you're using (both the settings window and the main window), and also of the terminal output box after the error has occurred?

That would be a major help to me :)

Thanks,
Hamish

Yep, I need to convert this to a bug report first -- doing that now.

Can you help with this problem?
