i am sorry but i am not exactly sure what you are referring to. what do you mean by active mode and what versions are 6.98 or 7.05? in case you mean the ubuntu versions, those would be 6.06 (for the one released in june 2006) or 6.10 (october 2006, called "edgy") or well feisty fawn would be 7.04.

please provide me with some more information and i'll try my best to help :-)

i've figured out by now that you're talking about dc++ (direct connect). well i hope that site in general or that particular page solves your problem otherwise feel free to ask again :-)

Active mode is all settings besides the passive setting.
You just has to make sure it is set up properly to function. Read the helpfile, and make the right adjustments in your firewall to allow DC++. For routers, you need to portforward for your client to work as it should :)

In DC++ there is an option for active mode in the connection settings for previous versions. Now it is not available for the newer versions. I just want to set it up for active mode.

Lightgirl_xp, so you are saying that I'm actually in active mode as long as I don't choose passive mode?

From DC++ helpfile:
Direct Connection
Select this mode if your computer is hooked directly to the internet. Do not select this mode if you have a router (firewall) or a software firewall.

Firewall with UPnP
Select this mode if you are behind a firewall that supports the UPnP standard for program auto-configuration. DC++ will automatically open the ports it needs and obtain your external IP address. This mode is not available on operating systems before Windows XP, as it was the first version to have UPnP support. There is a guide to configuring UPnP.

Firewall with manual port forwarding
Select this mode if you are behind a firewall (router), and will set up the TCP and UDP port forwarding on your own. You will need to specify the external IP address of your router using the setting below if you want downloads to work properly. Use this guide to set up active mode.
Firewall (passive, last resort)

Select this mode if none of the previous options apply. In this mode, DC++ will not try to make inbound connections, only outbound ones. This mode carries some limitations:
only 5 results per user will be returned in response to searches
you will not be able to download from other passive users

if it is not working, check your routers settings at this page => http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
and your firewall at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc/3._Setting_up

You probably updated from an older version. Some part of this faq covers this problem : https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+faq/83
