I can't figure out how to use ADL Search

Asked by Lazlo Hapag

I've spent the last two days searching YouTube for tutorials or other descriptions how to use ADL Search.

I'd like to be able to D/L one or more entire audio directories from a favorite user.

The documentation seems to suggest that can be done with ADL search but I can't figure out how to make that work.

It is so tedious to search and D/L one file at a time. In addition they usually all contain different Bit Rates and naming conventions and it is just so much easier to find a user who has several albums by a single artist in which all files are uniformly named and organized.

Does any know of any tutorials that explain how to use ADL Search?

I would prefer written step by step instructions instead of video clips like YouTube files.

I find the YouTube clips very difficult to use because they are organized as linear files and there doesn't seem to be any way to look at an index or Table of Contents and jump to an individual section.

Can anyone please give me any advice on the best way to learn how to use ADL Search?

ADLSearch is a sophisticaded tool but I am not sure you need it for a simple 'D/L one or more entire directories from a favorite user'. ADL is primarily useful to filter out the same hits from >different< users' filelists.
I can't see what do you use ADLSearch for when you already found a particular user sharing what you're interested of. You can use the simple search inside the user's file list to locate the directories you want....
Btw. in the latest DC++ version the search inside file lists is greatly improved.

Thank you very much for taking the time for that explanation.

I appreciate that very much and I understand what you are saying.

I suppose that I just have that kind of curious nature that when I get a
new tool, I like to explore and experiment with it until I feel that I
understand very much how it works.

Unfortunately, I can't understand hardly anything about ADL Search. The
entries I have read in the Help files just don't explain what is going on
in plain English.

I would love to see some step by step instructions or examples of how it
works.

Would it be OK with you if I were to send you some more email with
questions about ADL Search from time to time? I promise to keep it brief
and to only ask when I can't find any other way to understand.

Thanks again.

This is the first time I've used this service (I guess that must be obvious) and I've received several emails which appear to be identical to the comments in this forum.

The first comment include two linke but upon examination of those links, they seem to contain excerpts from the help file that I've already read and so I don't understand how they help to explain "ADL Search" beyond any info in the help file.

I would still like to find a tutorial or a document that is written in plain English and contains step-by-step instructions of some examples on how to sue "ADL Search".

When reading the help file, I see that certain columns contain specific information, but nowhere is there any explanation for how these columns are linked or how they help to d/l files from user directories.

Am I missing something basic here?

Is it possible that anyone knows of the existance of such a file or a tutorial that explains "ADL Search"?

When reading through the Help file, it just seems as if it's "all Greek to me".

I certainly do not mean any offense to the people who wrote the Help file nor to the Greek people. But I just cannot figure out how to put this information together and use it to d/l from a user's file list.

There's no additional official documentation about ADL Search. You can help yourself though by using the search engines as it looks like google has some useful results: http://www.google.com/search?q=dc%2B%2B+adl+search&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Can you help with this problem?
