Don't worry about. The Ubuntu software repository doesn't have the lastest version of clamv (version of the engine) but is you look at the two "is up to date" lines you see that you have the lastest cersion of the virus definitions. Ubuntu may change the clamav version if a critical/security bug id found, otherwise continues with this to the next release (Edgy - october end).

Uhm...we;re *really* gettning out of date on this, on all my Dapper machines (various servers, etc where they actually *have* Windows boxes) we're like 3 major revs behind.

Speaking as a guy that watches half-a-dozen Linux boxes each night, it's kinda embarrasing that Fedora Core 4 is more updated than Dapper. :/

Not that it matter a great deal to _me_ but several clients are itchy...

I have Dapper 6.06.1. ClamAV 0.88.4 is too old and has a nice bug: the bug doesn't allow you to update the definitions anymore because of a problem in the internal logger.

I think that a 5 Years LTS server shouldn't stay without an updated antivirus.. there were a few security fixes between 0.88.4 and the 0.90.x that maybe would be nice for a server..

Don't tell me that i should pass to Feisty.. :/

I'm with you on this; this should have been included. I have several
Ubuntu (Dapper) installs with this complaint, and one huge FC4 machine
embarrassing them all, with recent updates.

I tought that Canonical would keep the 6.06.1 rocking for a long time.. Feisty is a great distro, i think that would be a mistake leaving on its own the LTS.. or maybe i don't know/i don't understand the LTS philosophy tought for Ubuntu..

Uh and by the way, i've solved the bug in fresh clam with a cronjob that does this command(a "dirty work" i should say..):

/etc/init.d/./clamav-freshclam restart && freshclam --no-dns

(You can use or not "--no-dns" option. It's up to you!)

I've ported the feisty 0.91.1 release to dapper (6.10). As it is meant to be LTS!

Add this to your apt sources.

deb http://www.ricky-chan.co.uk/ubuntu dapper main

Yes your virus definitions get updated even if you have an older release BUT some signatures will NOT be recongised until the engine is updated.

Ricky

0.91.2 is out. I'll look at updating to it.

OK, Ricky Chan...for some reason clamav-daemon is searching for a file called "/usr/bin/daemon". If this has been installed in millions of sites, wouldn't something like this have come up before?

And waytago in keeping your email address under wraps...makes it easy to find help...

Can you help with this problem?
