Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

This stream is an AAC stream of Absolute Radio in the UK: http://aacplus-ar-48.as34763.net:80/

When attempting to first play the stream one of two things will happen randomly:
 * After a few seconds, Banshee stops trying to play and returns to Idle.
 * Banshee crashes and exits.

Note that the stream never successfully starts playing at the first attempt.

If Banshee didn't crash then a second attempt to play the stream always seems to succeed.

Technium, could you attach your "~/.config/banshee-1/log" as a separated file? also I'm wondering which kind of internet access do you use to reproduce this streaming because at least it works fine for me in the first try (10M Dedicated line)

Sorry, should have looked for a log. I'd rather not attach the whole thing as it contains many contact email addresses from using the Telepathy extension. However, this is the only relevant entry and it appears each time the playback fails:

[Warn 11:30:24.041] Absolute - Absolute Radio (AAC+) (on Absolute Radio (AAC+)) <00:00:00> [<unknown>] - System.Net.WebException: The request timed out (in `System')

  at Banshee.Streaming.RadioTrackInfo.LoadStreamUri (System.String uri) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

I have verified that the stream plays in e.g. VLC correctly first time every time.

My internet connection pretty high-speed, both at work (unknown) and at home (40Mbps fibre). Banshee behaves the same on both, and at other times when I've been on wifi hotspots.

Not sure how to get this bug noticed after my feedback so setting to new. Apologies if this is the wrong thing to do but I cannot find the relevant guidelines.

This has also affected me for some time now. I often listen to streaming NPR radio. When double-clicking to start playing, it always fails on the first attempt, and always succeeds on the second attempt. This is the URL I connect to: http://www.npr.org/streams/mp3/nprlive24.pls

This bug is missing information detailed in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure for it to comply with Stable Release Updates process. Please add a test case for recreating and the regression potential. Once this information is added to all the bugs addressed by the package in -proposed we will approve the upload. Thanks!
