Bug Description

If I have a list of places like this

mylink1
mylink2
mylink3
mylink4
mylink5

and I tried to move "mylink4" between "mylink1" and "mylink2" with a drag and drop, the result is:

mylink3
mylink1
mylink2
mylink4
mylink5

and finaly we have moved "mylink3" above "mylink1" !!!
I think that a "+1" is missing in the code for an index.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? That works fine for me on edgy. What sidebar do you use? The place one?

My version is Edgy (with last updates from official repositories) upgraded from Dapper. You're right, the name is the places sidebar that appear in Nautilus with F9.

This bug doesn't appear in a save/file/import dialog where places are here too.

Do you still get that bug?

Now I'm using a fresh install of Feisty due to a hard disk failure, I'm not able to experiment this bug again that seems to be fixed in Feisty, but apparently I was the only one with this bug !

Ok I know why there is this bug, when you edit (CTRL+B) places you can see some of them that are no more valid (folder deleted by example).

But due to these bad places the move of places to change their order is invalid.

If you delete them, it works perfectly.

could you describe how to trigger the issue on a stock user configuration?

If you mean how to reproduce, just add a few places by dragging folders to the places panel.

Next, just delete the folders (not the places). You can still click on places but nothing happened (because folders do not exist anymore)

Now, if you try to change places position in the panel the result will be wrong, you have to remove invalid places from the panel by editing places (CTRL+B) to have a correct result.

the bug is a minor issue, the desktop doesn't have the ressources to backport the thousand of intrepid bug fixes to stable, this one is very low priority and not likely to be backported there
