Bug Description

Inkscape version Inkscape 0.47+devel r9353
OS = Windows XP sp3 norwegian

After a while editing a file, there Inkscape tends to make any buttons disabled. It happens quite often with this latest beta version. The temporary solution is to close Inkscape and start over again. The bug seems to occur after spending some time drawing. Haven't encountered it happens right after Inkscape was started up.

The spesific futtons disabled last time I noticed:
* Stroke paint style = linear gradient
* Color 80% gray. The button shifted its color to a blue-alike color.

not seen with recent Inkscape 0.47+devel builds on OS X 10.5.8

This seems to be the same issue you reported earlier in bug #561815 “"Create regular Bezier path" gets unclickable”.
"after spending some time drawing" - is this 5 minutes of working on the same drawing or like after 2 hours?

Similar issue reported in bug #674324 (“select tool won't work”) with Inkscape 0.48.0 on Windows XP SP3, though just restarting Inkscape didn't help in that case: only after a reboot the tools worked again as expected.

Yesterday it happend to me for the "Text->Pun on Path" menu entry. The menu entry was stil usable by keyboard (highilighting the "Remove from Path" entry with the mouse, then crsr-up and enter). Some days ago it happened for the "Make selected segments lines" menu-bar button. In both cases, restarting Inkscape solved the issue.
Yesterday I'd been heavily using the put-on-path operation (I was thinking about associating a shortcut) before the lock, the other day I think I had never used the "make-line" button before realizing it was unavailable.

Hi.

I just need to add a comment here since I added the bug.

I have not observed this behaviour for a long time now, and I use Inkscape several times per day. From my point of view, this bug doesn't exist any more. I belive there must be something like a year and a half - at least - since I observed the behaviour.

It might well be a gtk bug, now fixed with one of the recent devlibs updates.

Don't hesitate to reopen the report if you run into the same bug again.
