Bug Description

Installed Ubuntu 8.10 in October 2008 on a Acer TravelMate C111TCi (10,4 inch TabletPC). It run flawlessly. 2 weeks ago installed Windows XP SP2 in parallel. Also OK. Yesterday (26/01/2009) 3 automatic updated were installed (did not pay attention which ones). The computer was switched off after that. Today tried to boot it and the display was corrupted: 2/3 of the screen are blurry (looks like a radio/magnetic disturbance) with one thick (4 centimeters) and 2 thin ( 5 millimeters) brown stripes. Can open files and brows internet, but can not see anything.

Rebooted from Windows - everything is OK, so I assume it is purely Ubuntu 8.10 problem.

Any idea what it might be?

Thanks a lot in advance.

P.S. Now it is even weirder - the image is tripled and there is still some disturbance. See the picture attached.

Hi 123marra,

Can you comment which specific version of the kernel you are currently using - `cat /proc/version_signature` . If you boot to the previously installed kernel, does the issue remain? If the issue remains, it's likely not a regression introduced by the kernel (assuming it was updated) and we'll want to reassign this to the more appropriate package. Please let us know. Thanks.

Dear Leann,

I am a new Linux user, so I don't know a lot of technical details.

When I boot the computer I have a choice to boot from the following:

- Ubuntub 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic
- Ubuntub 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic (recovery mode)
- Ubuntub 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
- Ubuntub 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7-generic (recovery mode)
- Windows XP

I have a problem booting from 2.6.27-9-generic (or at least I assume the computer automatically boots from it).

I hope it helps.

Regards

Dear Leann,

Indeed my computer was automatically booting from 2.6.27-9-generic (I specifically paid attention this time :)).

Now I tried to boot from 2.6.27-9-generic - there is still the same problem.

Please let me know if you have an idea of what the problem might be.

Thanks and regards.
