Bug Description

Everytime when trying to open or save any file the program crashes completely.
I use Vista Business, on a dual core AMD engine. I changed user rights and tried the compatibility mode (XPSP2), but that did nit change anything.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Critical

Is this is a problem with the file dialogs? or does the problem only kick in when you actually choose to "open" a file? Is it a problem if you open a file by double clicking on it in explorer?

I open Inkscape, work on the new document, then try to store by symbol in toolbar or "store" in the menu top left, then the software crashes after clicking.

It is not possible to store or open by any means.

Which version of Inkscape does this occur with? (There's a significant difference between 0.46 and current development builds, as they have completely different open/save dialogs.)

Also, is Inkscape installed on the C: drive, or on some other drive?

i took the lates version from website. Error occurs independent from installation directory. I tried it on C and D

sorry to be picky about this, but are you using Inkscape "latest stable version 0.46" or are you using a win32 nightly build such as Inkscape0806091511.7z ?

I have not been able to produce a crash running "latest stable version 0.46" on Windows Vista Business.

This problem has also been reported on Windows 2000 (with Inkscape 0.46): https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/35619
So it doesn't appear to be related to Vista, and I'm changing the title accordingly.

Is the dual-core processor really relevant either?

compared with old 0.46 (identic)
uninstalled old sw
installed new

then unsinstalled again
installed new; checkbox "deleting personal info" (or something like that) activated
error does not appear

very strange ...

meanwhile i had an update in Vista ...

roesti68: Are you still having this problem? I can't reproduce it using Inkscape on Windows XP SP2.
