Bug Description

Binary package hint: lirc

I own a Tekram (Q)IR-210 IR receiver. When i run

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc

and choose "Tekram Irmate 210 (16x50 UART compatible serial port)" as my remote receiver the files /etc/lirc/lircd.conf and /etc/lirc/hardware.conf don't contain any adjustments. They look pretty blank. Restarting lirc after that fails

$ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart
 * Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [fail]
 * Loading LIRC modules [ OK ]
 * Starting remote control daemon(s) : LIRC [fail]

The necessary kernel modules are loaded

$ lsmod | grep lirc
lirc_sir 20000 0
lirc_dev 18248 1 lirc_sir

and it looks, like it is successful.

$ dmesg | grep lirc
[ 62.565653] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
[ 62.568434] lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 0
[ 62.568485] lirc_sir: I/O port 0x03e8, IRQ 4.
[ 62.568492] lirc_sir: Installed.

But hardware.conf and lircd.conf contain only empty variables...

Btw, i think this issue is related, when installing lirc, there are two options for Tekram Irmate 210

...
Tekram Irmate 210 (16x50 UART compatible serial port)
Tekram Irmate 210 (16x50 UART compatible serial port)
...

When you choose the second one, the installating fails:

$ sudo apt-get install lirc
...
Richte lirc ein (0.8.3~pre1-0ubuntu7) ...
 * Reloading kernel event manager... [ OK ]
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von lirc (--configure):
 Unterprozess post-installation script gab den Fehlerwert 20 zurück
Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von:
 lirc
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

When you choose the first one, the installation of lirc is successful, but results in pretty default config files.

fixed in bzr #18 by removing the second occurrence of this option.
