Bug Description

I have HP LaserJet 2420 printer, with usb/lpt connection and it doesn't print anything when plugged locally to PC with Ubuntu server 7.10 or Ubuntu server 8.04 beta.
It works perfect in windows xp and windows 2003 server at the same PC.

My system configuration:
iPentium D 3GHz
1024Mb DDR2 RAM
ASUS P5WDG2-WS mainboard (i975X)
ATi x1600 pci-e video
2 x SATA 320Gb hdd's (AHCI mode)

Problem:
When this printer is locally plugged to linux system (Ubuntu server 7.10, 8.04) i can setup it, but after this it doesn't print anything.
I try different usb cables and try to use additional pci board with usb controller (NEC chipset)
I try different version of Ubuntu server - 7.10 and 8.04 beta (with all updates applied)
I make printer firmware upgrade, but nothing changed.

After some playing with hp-* utils i get this - before setup (or after) I can get results from hp-info:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.......... cut ............
03/30/08 21:38:36 1000 The printer is idle. root
  03/30/08 21:38:11 5012 Device communication error. services 23
  03/30/08 21:37:25 500 The printer has started a print job. services 23
  03/30/08 21:36:11 1000 The printer is idle.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
but hp-testpage doesn't print anything

Conclusion: At this time in Linux this printer works only if I add it to cups through "usb:" connection or if I plug it via usb/ethernet print server (LPR connection)

Question: What information I can provide to find any solution of this problem?

Today I try plug to this PC two other printers, HP LaserJet 1320 and HP LaserJet P3005. Both printers works fine.
So I believe this problem related to HPLIP
