Please wait a few weeks before removing wine1.6.

I think I can use it for the final step of the transition. Graham, I'll send you my proposal soon.

Greets!

I am adding the block-proposed tag so that this bug shows up on
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/cosmic/update_excuses.html

Feel free to remove the tag once you handle the upgrade issues. I synced the wine package from Debian for cosmic, but there is not yet an upgrade path from the wine-stable binary package to the wine binary package. Since wine1.6 depends on wine-stable, the new wine version is stuck in -proposed anyway.

wine1.6 1:3.0.1ubuntu1 has been uploaded.

Would an archive admin please remove the following NBS binary packages?

missing build on amd64: wine1.6, wine1.6-amd64, wine1.6-dev (from 1:1.8.4ubuntu1)
missing build on i386: wine1.6, wine1.6-dev, wine1.6-i386 (from 1:1.8.4ubuntu1)

Ok there is one reverse-recommends: for these, q4wine. Pulled this and confirmed this is part of a multi-part alternative for which we have a more appropriate completion. These can be safely removed:

Removing packages from cosmic:
        wine1.6 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic amd64
        wine1.6 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic i386
        wine1.6-amd64 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic amd64
        wine1.6-i386 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic i386
        wine1.6-dev 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic amd64
        wine1.6-dev 1:1.8.4ubuntu1 in cosmic i386

This bug was fixed in the package wine1.6 - 1:3.0.1ubuntu1

---------------
wine1.6 (1:3.0.1ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Add transitional package wine-stable (without epoch).
    Needed to provide an upgrade path from the wine-stable package
    to the wine binary package, and thus complete the transition
    from the old Ubuntu wine packages to the new Debian ones.
    Necessary until after the transition is complete (20.04).
    (LP: #1769649)
  * Drop previous transitional packages.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.1.4.
  * Define debhelper compatibility level 11 and adjust minimum version.
  * Set "Rules-Requires-Root: no" in d/control.
  * Update copyright years.

This bug was fixed in the package wine - 3.0.2-1

---------------
wine (3.0.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release 3.0.2, released Jun 26, 2018.
    - Various bug fixes
  * Let wine break/replace the old non-transitional package wine-stable.
    Needed until the next Ubuntu LTS (20.04) is released (LP: #1769649).
  * Refresh patches.
