Thumbnails in detail view are too tiny to be useful

Bug Description

The detail view shows thumbnails for videos (and images) and in most cases they are not useful because they are too tiny and the video (or image) is usually quite big.

In that case, the thumbnails should be hidden.

Note that if the image is tiny (like an icon when Files displays .desktop files) then the thumbnails are very useful and should be kept.

So, whether a thumbnail is generated needs to depend on
1) The zoom-level
2) The type of file
and possibly the location of the file (e.g. on a slow network) - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/pantheon-files/+bug/1067061

Should Icon view behave the same or always show thumbnails?

To keep in creating consistency between views, I think grid view should behave the same. The question I guess is what size to create the cutoff at. It'd probably be simplest to keep it the same as when we hide/show the selection helpers right?

There is no way to disable all thumbnails in Files at the moment. You could raise a wishlist-bug report about. You could uninstall the tumbler service but that would affect any other application using it. Thumbnailing on remote locations is disabled by default.

What is the motive for disabling all thumbnails? Speed?

On reflection I see no real benefit in hiding the thumbnails even if they are not useful at certain zoom levels in certain views; not worth the complication of the code anyway. There is a setting to set the minimum zoom level in each view.

The comment about being able to disable thumbnailing on local files is perhaps valid but should be the subject of a separate bug.
