Seems that there is an issue with shortcuts and symbols in general.

I have try to use some different shortcut than default <Ctrl><Alt>H
But it seams it is big mess with it. For example:
<Ctrl><Alt>H - is working
<Ctrl><Alt>C - is working
<Ctrl><Alt>X - is not working
<Alt>C - is not working
<Alt>X - is not working
<Alt>H - is not working
<Alt>` - is not working

It seams that single alt and any button is not working at all :(

I think that the alt keys are not working is not a Diodon issue but rather the HUD resp. X which is blocking the Alt key.

I have disabled the Alt Key for the HUD (http://askubuntu.com/questions/122209/how-do-i-modify-or-disable-the-huds-use-of-the-alt-key) and tested all the alt shortcuts key you have mentioned. All of them seem to work (except the one with the symbol).

Decision has been made to drop the internal Diodon hotkey feature and leave the responsibility of register a custom shortcut up to the desktop environment.

You can find more details here how you can do this:
https://esite.ch/2015/07/using-custom-shortcuts-of-de-as-diodon-hotkey/

Depending on the DE you use but symbols in keybindings should work otherwise will it be an issue of the specific desktop environment.
